Abanata 1-0 Keta Sandlanders

February 22nd, 2011 - Author: admin

Keta Sandlanders suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday away at Abanata FC of Aflao. A depleted Sandlanders side missed key defender John Alphonse (arm injury) and with 3 players down with malaria the side did not look its usual self. A first half goal was enough to finish the game and we were unable to claw back an equaliser in the second half.

The result (combined with a 1-0 victory for Abor Comboni elsewhere) sees us drop to 2nd in the table with 10 points from 5 games. Abor have 12 from 5 games but with another 5 to play there is still everything to play for.

In spite of the¬†final score we were also¬†very grateful to have Accra Hearts of Oak legend Charles Allotey along for the game. Charles was part of the famous ’64 Batallion’ side which won the African Champions League in 2000 and it was terrific to have him along to encouage the players. We hope to welcome him again in future.
