Mutundwe Sandlanders 2-1 Red Stars

April 11th, 2011 by admin

Mutundwe Sandlanders had to grind the upper teeth to go past a resilient Red Stars FC. Three siblings and a magnificent goalkeeper from Red Stars almost halted the 10-Match operation that the Sandlanders have embarked on.

Kivumbi Fazil header was counted then later cancelled by the second Assistant referee but not long before Lutalo Hamzah unleashed a grass cutter that gave no chance to the Red Stars Goalkeeper. It was the first match playing without Nsereko Fred Zidane the newly found match maker and this was always going to be hard for the team that beat the Sandlanders 2-0 in the first leg in Mulago.

Leading 1-0 at half time put the match to a handful second half and the Centre referee, Mr. Kawoya, pointed to the spot after Lubega Juma was adjudged to have pushed the gigantic Red Stars Centre Forward. Red Stars did not make a mistake and it was 1-all with 8 minutes to go. Meanwhile the Red Stars Goalkeeper was making acrobatic save after save. Tamale Thomas the Sandlanders hardest shooter requested the coach for a few minutes onto the pitch to confirm the goalkeeper with a shot and indeed he got the opportunity and the young man flashed it out again.

The most on-form player cam on the pitch in Mpanga Twaha and his got the ball drove into the 18-yard box beating three defenders before he was hacked and the referee once again pointed at the spot. Taken by heir to the crown of match maker in Senyonjo Tom and final score was reading 2-1 in favour of the Sandlanders.

Mutundwe once again benefitted from faltering Katwe United who managed another drop keeping the table leaders only 7 points ahead of the Sandlanders. And guess what, another mouth-watering encounter this weekend at Kaala ground the home of Mutundwe is Katwe United the table leaders’ visiting. The boys are aware that another win will put them 4 points behind the table leaders with 6 games to go.

Mutundwe Sandlanders 3-0 Kamwokya

April 4th, 2011 by admin

Mutundwe Sandlanders FC humiliated Kamwokya FC by three first half goals to nil to keep league leaders Katwe within a distance of 11 points with 9 matches to go.

Nsereko Fred Zidane had who came on in the 80th minute as a substitute to create the equalizing goal while the Sandlanders were trailing 1-0 in the previous game against Nakivubo Boys, was handed a starting place and did not disappoint. Through his trademark step-over and pace went past the Kamwoya right back for  Mpanga Twaha running on the far right to tap in. It was Nsereko again when he swung in a corner for Sentongo Gerald the centre half to power a header past the hapless Kamwokya goal keeper. The ever hardworking , youthful Kizito Ronald Cox finally got on to the score sheet again with a deceiving looping ball that went for the 90 degree goal posts angle on the far right.

Half time was reading 3-0 in favour of the Sandlanders and it was time for the coaches to test the other youngsters.

Coach Mumpenje Frank said that he is “worried” with the work rate and improvement by both the full backs of the day. “Kagwa Andrew (right back) and Mukasa Robert (left back) are becoming more and more amazing but they are the hardest workers on this team further” said Frank.

Mutundwe Sandlanders Cup Loss

February 9th, 2011 by admin

Mutundwe Sandlanders are out of this year’s Bell Uganda Cup after a 2-0 loss to current cup holders Victors FC. After a stunning victory against African giants KCC in the last round, we couldn’t repeat the feat against a side playing at continental level this year. Great experience for our young side and we now go back to focusing on qualification for the FUFA Big League (Uganda’s second tier league) this season.
