St Mary’s 1-2 Mutundwe Sandlanders

April 7th, 2011 - Author: admin

Mutundwe Sandlanders climbed to cloud 9 after eliminating KCC FC from the Bell Uganda Cup but the frustration of being eliminated by Victors FC in the subsequent round plunged the players morale into a deep abyss that the technical team had taken a while to dig the them out of. If the current turn of events is anything to go by however, the Sandlanders have rediscovered their form after a secnd successive victory.

In closely contested game against St Mary’s FC, Mutundwe went down by a goal in the 4th minute of the game from an indirect free-kick. The combination of on-form Mpanga Twaha and Kizito Ronald Cox produced the equalizer in the 40th minute with Mpanga as the provider.

After half-time, Mutundwe replaced Nsereko Zidane with Tamale Thomas and Kizito Ronald with Agaba Obed. Obed immediately turned the game with flicks, overheads and stepovers and converted the home fans to the side of the visitors. He then upped his game to the benefit of the people when he turned the right back inside out and crossed for Lutalo Hamzah who fired non-stop but Mpanga Twaha was there to pick the spill of the goal keeper in the 80th minute.

It required a Robert Mukasa goal-line header clearance and point blank saves from Kiberu Mubarak to walk home with all the 3 points.

Current table toppers Katwe failed to win their game bringing them within 9 points range of the Sandlanders with 8 games to go.
